PREVIOUS NEWS …

WITH YOUR SUPPORT, WE DID IT!!

By Churchward Aiga Group

Thank you so much to you, our wonderful support crew! As you can see together we raised over $2,700! This was far beyond our expectation and we are just absolutely thrilled. Relay for Life has international appeal - we received donations from as far away as Germany and Australia !

The day was amazing … the wet weather did not deter us from continuing our mission. Not even a flooded tent could dampen our spirits or that of the other participants on the day.

Our Acknowledgement/Memory board was one of the first things we put up outside our tent. Our two survivors, Karlos and Hayley, joined other survivors/carers behind the Banner of Hope and walked a lap of honour to open the track. The atmosphere was upbeat and full of life and  along with other friends and families, we radiated with pride at watching our loved ones who fought back against cancer. The Zumba class was enjoyed by all our team - photos on Facebook! The Candlelight Ceremony was certainly the most emotional time - we watched as many families brought their decorated bags; we read many of the bags as others read ours.

We received loads of visitors - some had joined the walkers for a couple of laps; some had brought us coffees, muffins, sandwiches (delicious too); and good cheer!

We had fantastic neighbours - RaboBank on one side, St Johns on the other - who could ask for more. We shared the bbq with RaboBank (it helps to know the Team Captain - Karlos!) and they helped us shelter our gear and 10 or so or our walkers while our tent was being dried out! Big cheers to RaboBank and to the three brave women who spent three hours mopping, hanging, drying.

As previously mentioned, we received loads of messages of support - thank you so much everyone … WE REALLY APPRECIATED YOUR SUPPORT - IT KEPT US GOING, PARTICULARLY OUR 11PM-6AM CORE GROUP.

Less than 24 hours now!

By Churchward Aiga Group

Thank you so much for all your encouraging comments on this page! As a team we will draw from these messages and stand strong as we embark on the first lap and continue to the last. We will remember them during the more trying shifts the 11pm - 5am !!

We have loved the stories you have sent us or shared with us - some inspirational and some very moving; some from personal experience and some from observations; these stories (and of course all your support) we will take with us on the track to keep us motivated.

We feel incredibly proud to hand over your donations to Cancer Society, and you should feel proud too !! We are bursting with excitement … we endeavour to post the Relay for Life photos  of Facebook on Sunday …

Finally, thanks for all your positive vibes and upbeat buzz … and as Ellen DeGeneres so famously articulates … ”BACK ATCHA” !! xx

WHAT? WE HAVE DOUBLED OUR GOAL?

By Churchward Aiga Group

Wow, we have not only excceded our goal, WE HAVE DOUBLED IT …. to say you rock out there is a total understatement!! Since last night you gave well over $1,000 to Cancer Society … UN - BE - LI - VA - BLE !!

YOU ARE AWESOME!!

We are so blown away by the amazing generosity of so many of you … in the last 12 hours the total has ballooned by a massive $600.00. Please know your donations to Cancer Society will help the sustainability of the organisation which in turn will support so many families affected by cancer. To you donors and fundraisers, you absolutely rock!

Speaking of fundraisers - while I do not want to single out any one fundraiser as I think everyone has done an incredible job, I feel it is necessary to highlight one young lady who has done particularly well.

Over the last week, yes folks, only in the last week, Emma Cooper (first cousin to Hayley and Karlos) has raised $168.60 which she collected from around her neighbourhood!!! Emma is only 11 years old and went out fundraising the day she received her official donation sheet. Well done Em, and the Cooper clan for your incredible fundraising efforts. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

PLEASE KNOW, WE APPRECIATE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU WHO HAVE GIVEN AND/OR WHO WILL BE PARTICIPATING … THANK YOU.

Countdown begins

By Churchward Aiga Group

Not long now before we start Relay for Life - 26 March 2011.

There’s excitement in the air particularly as we have started gathering our supplies for the day … suprising how exciting it is choosing a tarpaulin !! Thanks to family and friends, we have managed to gather what we need for our tent - mini bbq, airbeds, tables, torches. We have splashed out on some cans of V (very limited stock) for our 11pm-5am walkers !!

Our team sashes have arrived and they look fantastic. We have a full team meeting on Sunday morning to go through several details including a last minute fundraising nudge !!

Thanks to the team members for spreading the word to support Cancer Society, especially our Hayley who has worked tirelessly on making sure this goes ahead with minimal hiccups!

PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO WANNA DONATE FOR SEVERAL OPTIONS OF DONATING/SUPPORTING OUR CAUSE.

Isabella’s Weekly

Hi my name is Isabella and I’m going to be bloging once every 2 week. There are 2 people in my family that have had cancer my brother and my cousin. My cousin had cancer when she was little they used to call her “little surviver” she was only 4 years old (cutie). My brothers cancer was only just recently it was a sad time for both cancers. That’s why I’m “fighting back to give back” I would like to give back to cancer society for what they have done  I think it is a miracle. That is all for now see you in two weeks time. :)

Have a nice week everyone!!!!!!!!!

Update for 28/02/2011

By Churchward Aiga Group

Hey, thanks for visiting the Churchward Aiga ‘give a little’ website page. We hope to post photos, videos and blogs recording our progress towards our $1,000 fundraising efforts. As a family this is the first year we are participating in Relay for Life but hope this will be an ongoing annual event for us.

In our immediate family we have three survivors of cancer, which every day we are ever so grateful to have them in our lives . Although we have, sadly, lost some members of our extended family and friends to cancer, we have so many who are survivors. Over the years we have drawn support and information from the Cancer Society in Wellington. We are so appreciative for their help, for their support and for their varied services they offer.

Please support us to give back to the Society that gives so much. Thanks loads. Look out for new blogs and photos

All our love and support to the people of Christchurch xx
